Are your omega-3 levels sufficient?

Studies show that an additional test, one that isn’t readily used at this time, proves beneficial in determining our risk of cardiovascular disease.  It is the Omega-3 Index; one that does not require a blood draw.  A low reading of EPA and DHA levels in our red blood cells is indicative of risk.

Dr. Bruce Daggy, research scientist and educator, encourages us to tell our healthcare providers that we want “to be an active partner with them in keeping (our) hearts healthy; that (we) want to understand (our) risks and are willing to make diet and lifestyle changes to address them.”

For some conditions, a doctor’s position might be that prescription drugs are necessary. Daggy says, “even if that’s the case, doing all you can, helps minimize the number and strength of medications prescribed. That would reduce your risk of an adverse drug experience or a drug-drug interaction.”
