The difference between juicing and smoothies

Smoothies and juices are both loaded with nutrients and taste fabulous. While they have the same properties as fruit or vegetables in their raw form, their liquid forms allow different textures and appearances. These differences lie in the procedure, methods, and machines used to make each drink.

The major differences

When you blend, you end up consuming the food in its entirety.  For instance, if you blend an apple, your body will digest the full fruit. When you juice, the fibrous portion is removed. So, what’s left are the micronutrients, in liquid form.  As for the process, there are two procedures, in juicing.  You may use a juicer to squeeze the water instantly, or you may do it manually.  The harder fruits and vegetables will not be able to be squeezed by hand, requiring a juice extractor.

A high performance or traditional blender is used to make smoothies.  When the liquid is processed into a puree, with the use of a blender, the drink is smooth and thick.  Smoothies are thicker and more filling than juices, since they have the fibrous cellulose and pulp which have been removed from the juice.

All about smoothies

Smoothies are also full of energy and nutrients and, essentially, provide one with an entire balanced meal.   These drinks (meals) are excellent for busy people with hectic schedules; making it possible to enjoy a meal on the run. And, like juice, smoothies will help you to stay hydrated.

All about juicing

Juicing is the best way to get healthy nutrients into your body, quickly.  Juicing does not require lengthy preparation.  Yet, you are the essential nutrients that are needed, in your body. Juicing has several health benefits, including weight loss, body hydration, and added boost to the immune system.  They say water is everything.  The water in juice is a natural source that helps to hydrate.  In addition, fresh juice also provides enzymes that are vital to the metabolic process and are critical elements in giving one’s body energy. Fresh juice delivers the raw goodness of fruits and vegetables.  To be able to enjoy the benefits, the juicing must be from fresh fruits and vegetables; not the ready-made juices, found in the supermarket.

Whether you choose juice or a smoothie, you will be giving your body essential nutrients that it requires. Both of these methods make use of healthy fruits and vegetables.  Perhaps knowing their differences will also increase your enjoyment of future selections.
