Calling all to be mindful of suicide awareness

While September is the designated month that we bullet suicide awareness and prevention, it is certainly a high alert matter to keep mindful all year long. In fact, the Center for Disease Control lists suicide as the 10th leading cause of death in the US.

We’ve adopted the adage, “If you see something, say something,” as a deliverable we can perform towards advancing our country’s national security. This same adage can serve to intervene in an individual’s, a family’s, a community’s welfare.

The National Suicide prevention lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 is a number that we should all keep handy. No one is immune and no one should feel ashamed to seek help for themselves or on behalf of someone else. Are we ashamed to reach out when we get the flu or suffer an injury? Not at all. As a society, we need to work together to make the issues of the mind and emotions just as seamless.

This video has a powerful message for all of us. Our lives matter; yours and mine. Reach out. Someone will walk with you. If you don’t know who that someone is, call the lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. I just phoned and they are waiting to help anyone of us or a loved one.
